♡ Back to School - the makeup ♡

♡ Aloha everyone! ♡

It's now that time of year for a lot of you where you're all going back to school. Other than my lovely Australian readers that is of course.
I'm going to start this series of posts called "Back to school" where I will discuss the problems we all face - if they can really be called problems. So this means, posting in the comments suggestions or questions you have will be a great help.

Today, I will be discussing makeup.

One of the main reasons that we'll wear makeup for school is to cover up our imperfections. If I was blessed with clear, acne-free skin I would be taking advantage of this and steering clear of makeup.
But not all of us are lucky, so this is where concealer pops up with a helping hand.
This is my favourite concealer for school as it is thin yet provides a nice amount of coverage, has an interesting way of applying, lasts for most of the day and helps to brighten your skin.
This is the Maybelline Eraser for Dark Circles.
I find using the concealer in a shade lighter than your foundation results in a brighter under eye area, and then despite it saying to only be used for under the eyes, I like to use it on my spots or red areas on my face.
The sponge is a fun and cleaner way of applying concealer too, and really, my only dislike about this product is how quickly it runs out. As you can see, there is literally nothing left.

If you don't have oily skin, or your foundation, BB cream or tinted moisturiser stays in place please skip this step.
This is my favourite powder because it provides a surprising amount of coverage, and lasts for the majority of the day. It's the Maybelline Shine Free Loose Powder, and has added bonuses of being oil free and non-comedogenic, which means less pore-clogging and more anti-shine.

This step isn't necessary, but its nice for those who want a little added colour to your face. Rather than going for the bronzer you use for contouring, opt for a bronzer that is only a couple of shades darker than your natural skin colour, and lightly sweep this across your cheeks, up your temples and down across your jawline.
If you have one like the one shown above, try to avoid the forehead and any areas that are particularly oily for you.
This Baked To Last bronzer from The Body Shop has a fair bit of shimmer, as well as light hints of a white and pink shimmer, which adds a nice glow to the skin.

Just like the step above, this, too, is an unnecessary step. I don't like to use anything other than a BB cream, tinted moisturiser or foundation and some powder on my skin for school, just because during the day when I'm bored in class, time is flying slowly and I'm begin to notice little details, I can feel the sticky, greasy makeup just sitting on my skin.

But for those who are a fan of a light glow, go for something like this. This is Bobbi Brown's shimmer brick compact in Pink. I love this dusted across the cheek bones, and a very very light amount across the apples of your cheeks.
To me, eyeshadow is definetly not needed in school makeup, but that's my own personal opinion. If you like a little shadow, go for something bright to help give the illusion of awake eyes. I love this Shimmer Brick Eye Palette from Bobbi Brown for that exact reason. It performs best on its own, and adds a very light hint of colour, and a lot of shimmer. Fall out isn't an issue, and it stays put all day long.
A little exy in price, but very much worthwhile.

I was also anti-mascara until recently. And when I mean recently, I mean how impressed I was after using this particular mascara. This is the infamous 'Clump Crusher' from Covergirl, and I can honestly tell you, when it says its a clump crusher, it's a clump crusher.
I do like spidery lashes but school is not the place for them. Unless your school is flexible with dress code, you want something that appears natural and effortless.
This mascara is easy to apply, and doesn't slide down your face so no need to worry about panda eyes.

Whether or not you fill in your brows for school is optional, but I do recommend at least combing through them with a brow gel or spoolie. This one is the Body Shop's brow gel, but as you can see I've emptied it. I spray the spoolie every couple of days with a light amount of hairspray, and I find this keeps them in the right direction all day long, because school is not the place to be sporting spiky brows (Take a hint Georgia :D)

Finally, the lips. Again, unless your school has a flexible dress code, keep the colour to a minimum and the creaminess high.
These are my two all time favourite (You can probably tell by the pink one) lip balms.
The first (pink) being the Maybelline Baby Lips 'Pink Glow' in Mixed Berry, which provides a very nice hint of a deepish pink colour, and the Nivea Essential Care which smells like vanilla and moisturises like...uh...butter? I don't know but your lips go from the Sahara desert to lucious green, Icelandic grass in no time (I'm sorry, I really do suck at descriptions).

My next "Back to School" post will be on School Fragrances, but I would still love to hear your suggestions for the Back To School series, so PLEASE comment below!

That's it for now everyone, I hope you're all having a wonderful day, and I'll see you in my next post.

Lots of Love,

  1. Great picks for school, especially the base. I will someone had told me when I was going to school that I didn't need a thick heavy foundation but a concealer/powder would be enough.
